Well, good news and bad. My friend said it's Edgar County near the towns of Hume (?) and Paris (?). Bad news is he said there's very little trees/cover and in the times he's been out there (don't know when, what season, etc), he said he hasn't seen deer or pheasants or any type of game animals.Oh well, one can dream right? Thanks
Im from Paris! There's nice deer killed here every year, and on the Northern part of Edgar it does get very flat! There are plenty of nice deer killed out of the Northern end of Edgar every year though, so I'd say it's worth a shot, and if you don't do that well hunting, maybe you'll have a nice weekend with the friend then, huh?

If you could somehow just get15 minutesSouth of Hume, you'd have all the deer you'd want...any possibilities? Does he hunt? Does he have friends from the area that maybe would allow you and him to hunt?

My grandpa lives in Hume, and i hunt down in that area with him all the time! KILLED TONS of great deer their, and the pheasant population is starting to rise again, and coyote hunting is great! if you want to hunt in that area let me know! both my grandparents have lived in that area (one set owns a farm 15 min. away form the other set) all their lives, and are fairly old, so have tons of people they know, so i can get you a good set up on someones property! all you gotta do is let me know, and i will find someone to let you hunt on their property!

As Lanse pointed out, it doesn't take much to hide a deer. A former coworker of mine was a creek bottom and wind row specialist, he took some monsters from places where others swore there were no deer. Take a trip there and scout for sign, there's probably more there than your friend supposes.

i lived outside chicago bout 25 miles in Hinsdale, then moved down to Carbondale to go to college here at SIU! but spent every weekend down in at my grandparents, so i could hunt, plus my grandpa with the farm is 81 so he needs a little help quite often, he just cant get things done as fast as he use to! do you actually live in paris, or outside of town a little bit? how close are you to the Paris lake?

Thanks guy for the more encouraging news. Apparently, my friend said it's just the land up there, no house or even a shack on the property. He lives down in Texas as well, but is now the proud owner of the residential property up there. He said if I was ever up in that area that I'd be more than welcome to look around and go hunt if there is anything up there. He assumed since it was so flat that there wouldn't be anything on the property. Those of you who know the area, I may be in touch with you sometime if I do decide to take a hunting trip next year. If I do, I'll need some company and someone to help me with the scouting of the property. Best of luck to all this season.

I've got some friends that go to SIU. I actually live IN Paris, but I mean, it's Paris, lol. So really I can be outside of Paris in less than a 5 minute drive. I live a few miles away from the lake but like I said, in Paris you're close to everything. From my house to the lake is about a 5 minute drive through town.

and sigav8r

all you gotta do is give me about three weeks notice before you come down so i can make sure i can get down for the weekend, if you come down in the spring semester for me (in college, so my seasons are fall semester, deer season, spring semester) but i dont have any classes on friday 2 semester, and only one on monday. and if you could give me an earlier heads up on when you would be coming down that would be even better

yep definitely not a big place. Our nights out consist of sitting in a gravel parking lot by all the bars shootin the crap or sittin around a fire in a random spot out in the country somewhere. I can see where it's fun to drive through...with the 2 lanes the whole way it kinda feels like a dragstrip (atleast when you're driving a camaro, lol). Im actually a sophomore at eastern illinois, but I live at home because Its only like a 25 minute drive and I wasnt about to pay all that extra money for a dorm!

sigav8r I'd probably be willing to check the place out with ya since its not very far from me. Just depend on the timing.
