When do you make that decision to shoot or not?

I SUPPOSE THE FIRST THING I WOULD ASK IS IF WE ARE MEAT HUNTING OR TROPHY HUNTING ... IF IM MEAT HUNTING THEN I MOST LIKELY WILL TRY AND SELECT A MATURE DOE WITH NO YEARLINGS ...OBVIOUSLY IF I AM HORN HUNTING THEN I HAVE A SET ASTANDARD IN MY MIND BEFORE I EVER ENTER THE WOODS ..IF I'M NOT GOING TO HAVE IT MOUNTED THEN I WILL NOT BE SHOOTING ..

the area I hunt has a fairly good deer population but you need to have an anterless deer tag if you want to shoot a doe. If I am drawn and have such a tag I usually will not even consider shooting a doe the first 2 weeks of our 4 week season. pretty much any buck is dead at any time. I may pass on a spike the first week depending on the mood I am in.
I will not shoot a doe with fawns, might just as well shoot the fawns too if you do that IMO.
Just looking for meat to put in the freezer.

Deer populations where I hunt are somewhere between medium and high. If you can't get a shot off at the first doe you saw, just wait another one is out thier. So deer populations is a no issue for me.
As for a doe I try to make sure that it is not a fawn, but if it is a good size doe and I can get a shot off ,then I will take it right then and there. I try to go out with only killing a doe first on my mind. but if a good size big body buck comes around....well bang! goes the rifle.
