Default 150 or 100 grains of powder

Ive got an encore and i use 150 grains of powder with a 240 grain knight bullet. I killed a deer with this gun last year and droped it at a 115 yards. My dad also uses the same in his encore and he killed a deer last year at about 210 yards. But is there any way to lower the powder put in and try a different bullet? What do u suggest to try? SOme people tell me to use 100 grains of powder and go to a lighter bullet. WHat do u think?

I think that this question might be better asked to the folks who frequent the "Reloading" forum here. I don't reload, but I am a chemist, and it seems like there's a really big difference between 150 and 100 grains of powder in a load, but I can't be totally sure...
Everyday experience, in that case, generally tells me that if you're changing something, change it less drastically and things will work better.

Hey 3, Maybe the best place for this post is in the blackpowder forum. I started a "150 grain" thread and made someone upset. Darn..... Hope you like your Encore as much as I do. Go ahead and lower your charge, but keep the bullet if you are happy with it. Jim

You're using to much powder over kill. A simple way to figure your powder is to take 240 divide by 2.5 = 96 so you could round this up to 100. This will work good for any bullet weight take the weight of the bullet and divide by 2.5. If your using 150 grain of powder you could easily shoot a bullet that weighs 375. Hope this helps, I also use a 240 xtp and I only use 90 grain of powder haven't missed a deer yet.
