Default RE: ground blinds

I just used Ameristep's "Outhouse" blind for the first time yesterday. WalMart had them clearanced down to $39.99 so I got one to try. I wasn't sure how their "Tangle Camo" would work, or about the size of the blind itself, but by 10am I was glad I made the purchase.

I was set-up and waiting at 6am...almost 60 minutes prior to the first good shooting light...on the edge of a 100 acre dove field with fresh winter growth and massive deer use sign. Trails entered the field from all directions, but due to strong windy conditions, I set up in the lowest corner and waited. By that 10 am time, 4 does (currently closed season <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>), 2 rabbits, and 11 wild turkey had passed within 50 yards of me, entering the edges of the field and feeding. The wind was whipping pretty good but the blind was &quot;fairly&quot; quiet....I have a few ideas for the noises that were made. I didn't see any takers yesterday, but I did see an additional 3 does and got the satisfaction that I made a good purchase.

Hoping to go on the season's final day...Sunday, to try it out again. I would recommend the blind.

Default RE: ground blinds

They have to get used to them. example i have a tower stand that is 10 ft to the floor with a 60 x 48 platform on top. i mean it is enclosed with plywood.
The stand has been there for about 10 years now with a few mods. the deer probably wouldnt come if it came down. they are so used to it standing.. .get this.........in the middle of a 40 acre field by itself ,no trees around it just those old ceder weeds to cover ....my four wheeler parked beside it.
5 deer were shot off of it this year of which three were bucks. one was about a 4y/o with a 7 pt rack w/ a 17&quot; inside spread,8 &quot; g2's.
my son killed two bucks off of it also. hundreds were passed on ,does that is , several small bucks were seen.
Now the key is to get them out NOW!!! right now!! don't wait till the end of next summer like so many boneheads do. now!!!
by next fall deer will be so used to whatever it is you build they might just get in with you!
I am working on stands now to put out hopefully next month . plus it is alot cooler and no ticks or bugs this time of the year.
Next fall you will be happy you took the time to do it now , i promise.
