Default Botched poaching attempt

I tried holding off posting this, because it really sickens me. This year I took a buck up in Wisconsin during rifle season. But this isn't your average buck, this is a buck walking around with holes in his head.

On opening morning, after sitting for awhile, I met up with some buddys. We were walking down a logging trail when my one buddy spotted this buck. The buck was acting real strange, he would walk down the trail, turn into the woods, then back up, almost like he was blind. He turned broadside at around 130 yards, and I took him. He didn't go far, maybe 30 yards.

Upon inspection I was shocked, he had a hole in his head that caught my eye instantly. I flipped him over and he had another hole, this one smaller.

His throat and stomach was full of feed corn, which doesn't suprise me. I'm guessing this buck was shot a few days at most before opening day. He was pretty deep in the woods and moving slowly to be shot that morning....

Yes, you are 100% correct. When I went to check in this deer, first thing the check in guy said...

"Why did you shoot it with a .22, you know that's illegal"

I thought great, now I'm going to get busted for this deer! Thankfully, the .30-06 left a good visual for him to see.

Nobody looks at your deer in Illinois for the past 2 years now. You call in by phone. They ask a few questions like length in centimeters from the tip of the hoof to the dew claw, etc. After you call in they give you a confirmation number for you to write on your leg or antler tag. I guess they do check deer in certain countys for CWD though. Used to drive to a check station where they would try to age your deer, wrap a check station tag through the leg, ask a few questions if your seen turkeys, coyotes, bobcats, etc. Then give you the harvest pin. Last year they mailed the pin to you. This year you had to find out who has them and go pick them up yourself. I understand even non-hunters were able to get the pins. Kinda takes the fun out collecting them....what a bunch of tight a$$'s
