No i know a guy that used a 300 mag on deer and wat not. Works really good. The way i think about it is you never can get to big! Im hunting with a 7mm mag so im not that far behind a 300

No, it's not to big, it's legal.

However, I would not prefer to use that cal.

I use a .270, and if I had it to do over again, I think I would go with a .243 for deer.

If you're thinking of going elk hunting or even larger, though, and want to go with one caliber, the 300 might be the right choice.

God help you if a deer sneeks in at 40 yards or less. Had a situation like that with a 30.06. Lets just say it dispatched the animal immediately.

It is 30 caliber you can load any thing from 100 gr ballistic tips to 250 gr solids its up to you what you want to shoot.

There is no such thing as to dead!

I gotta ask, what is a CXP2 game?

I think a 300 WSM is overkill, but suit yourself.

Idon't think it's overkill at all. You shoot a deer with a 300wsm-it dies. You shoot a deer with a .243--it dies. Same results-dead is dead. As long as you can shoot the rifle accurately and you're comfortable with it,who cares what you kill a deer with

Well, 180gr is little big, maybe too much Sectional Density. You might not get the expansion you would like on Deer. A friend on here of mine shot a small doe with a 300RUM with 180gr accubond, and didn't create the damage he would ahve thought. Exit hole small as the entrance. A 150gr might suit you better for deer.

CXP1 game = small game, varmints, small predators like coyotes
CXP2 game = middle-sized, thin skinned such as deer, antelope, goats and sheep. May include black bears and hogs.
CXP3 game = mid to large size, thicker skined game such as elk, moose, brown bears
CXP4 game = thick skinned dangerous game such as many African species and American Bison.

Lets say I was gonna hunt elk as well, would a 150 grain from a 300 WSM be sufficient? Like maybe the new winchester XP3's???
