Coulda Shoulda Woulda - Tale of 3 Bucks in VA.
I was sitting on my stand all day overlooking a possible travel area between a 10 yr old cutover and some fairly thick hardwoods, saw nothing all day until about 4pm...and that is where this story begins...
I saw a huge fox at 4pm and it scared away a buck that was coming in to check out my Tinks69 but he was "only" 4-6 pts in my best estimate. Then at 4:30 I heard all kinds of racket coming from behind and to the right of my stand and was sure it was the fox again or some more squirrels. Nope, a few minutes later I saw what I thought was a horse! After a closer look, 25 yds away in some thickets, I saw he was a 10 pt. about 250 lbs!!! Well I couldn't shoot him because he was on the wrong side of my tree stand. What would you do? Shoot anyway and maybe risk falling? And while I was trying to angle a way to shoot that buck, tried calling him with my doe in heat grunt and another buck, 6-8 pts shows up but behind the tree my stand is on so I cant get him EITHER!!! GRRR!!!! And while I am trying to call either one of the previous two bucks closer in or maybe get them to come from the front of my stand, another buck shows up 4pts and he is BEHIND ME while I am facing the tree! I slowly turned around to get him and my boot snags something on the stand and he takes off. He didnt see me I am sure but he heard the clang from the strap. #%@#!^!$#%!@# THAT WAS MY DAY! HOW WAS YOURS!!?!? I have been hunting for 55 hrs since last week and this is the first bucks I have seen yet! Should I hunt this spot again tomorrow? I got out without spooking anything I am sure. Thanks and wish me luck, I NEED IT!!!! <img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle> I feel like I need some counseling after this...I have never seen a deer so huge.

If they didn't see you or smell you, it probably wouldn't hurt to hunt the same area as long as the wind is right. Might try climbing the other side of the tree though.

Recon,
Sorry to hear that bad news, but try again I'm sure you'll nail one of them. Where in Fairfax you seeing these bucks, I'm in prince william woodbridge.
