Food Plot Help????
We are gonna make a food plot near our house to help out the deer this year, I was wondering how big should we make it? and like what kind of minerals would be good for the growth of antlers, body mass etc.? I was thinking like maybe an acre or 2, and some mineral licks throughout the area... We have some HUGE bucks running around already (160-180 inch), but I would like to see more big ones, and help out the neighbors too. if you have any suggestions, lemme know, thanks!

don't plant pea's. we planted a 10 acre pea field one year on an out of state lease, the deer would pull the pea stalks out of the ground and eat them when they got about 4-6" tall. i imagine pea's would be good if you could keep the deer away from them until they matured but we couldn't. seemed like they pulled up and ate every plant in one night. if you had the finances, i would try some of that clover they advertise all the time.

RE: Food Plot Help????
I use 'whole oats' to do my food plots/small ones bout a acrer.Like he said,i wouldnt use pea's or soybeans, they eat um as they come up
I like using oats they'll eat it down in about a week,so every 2 weeks i grab a few hand fulls of oats and spread them over the food plot again, they always come up and the deer have a fresh food source in about 1-2weeks,hope for some rain
and in fact,i just went out and bought a bag yesterday,11$,its a pretty big bad,it'll do a few acrers atleast

We plant clover and chickory. We have less than an acre plots planted, but have them where they are comfortable coming out into them. But we raise soybeans, barley, and wheat as crops on the rest of the farm. They love the tender growth on soybeans.
