Worth the Time
I was just wondering if it is worth the time to hunt in a steady rain ? We have a 90% chance all day tommorrow , and this is my first season , so I'm really not sure what I should do.
Thanks,

RE: Worth the Time
I have never seen a deer in the rain or heard of anyone of my friends seeing or shooting deer in the rain. I have seen deer however move in the rain when I was not hunting, crossing roads ECT...but my experience is no, they will keep bedded down unless something or someone pushes them to move around. I believe it spooks them because its harder for them to hear and pick up scent. If they have nothing pushing them they have no reason to move around. I think they like to stay put in the rain. Thats what I think.

It depends on how hard its raining in my experience. The harder its raining the less deer movement I've seen, but when there's just a light rain falling, I've seen alot of movement, if fact I believe hunting in a light rain is one of the best times to hunt. Also use the rain to your advantage & stalk hunt, you can see alot of deer if you move slow & steady throughout the day.
Good luck,

I would have to agree with H.H. I have seen and taken several deer during a light to moderate rain. Don't know if they were on the move or just heading to cover, but if I had been in camp trying to stay warm and dry instead of on the stand, I wouldn't have seen them. To get to the point....you're there to hunt and may as well as long as the weather doesn't become too severe (i.e. lightning). Good luck and happy hunting!

I say get out there....if the rain lets up, those deer will start moving. Maybe not a lot, but they'll stretch a leg and grab a quick bite to eat.
The main thing will be seeing them, as you won't here them coming.

if you are going to be miserable, then no its not worth it. hunting is about fun so if its not fun then dont go. If you can stay warm and dry, then you might as well go, i doubt there is much of anything else more important for you to do
good luck in your first season

I agree with others. My experience has been light rain I have seen a lot of deer moving. Heavy rain no movement. Now, right after heavy rain is one of my favorite times to hunt. Usually have a lot of activity and the ground is nice and quite.
