Using rut tactics in October???
I have noticed in the last few days that a lot of you have made post stating the use of doe estrous and rattling. Not sure about the rest of the country, but in Indiana it is still to earlier for the rut (still about a month away for peek). Wouldn't rattling and the use of estrous spook the deer if the rut is not in season yet??? I am asking for knowledge, I really don't know the answer to this.

Cleetus - I was thinking it's too early here in Michigan, too. Then I just read a post from a Michigan guy on another board who used the Primos L'il Can with amazing success last week for the opener of MI bow season. It's supposed to be similar to the regular Can, but it emits a shorter bleat.
I had to order some bullets from cabela's, so I ordered one of those, too. I'll follow up on this if I have any success with it.

RE: Using rut tactics in October???
Cleetus, I'm from Ramsey Indiana in south central of state. As far as rattling goes bucks are starting to spar a little more agressive being mid oct. I've seen in previous years bucks pushing each other around in early bow season. Not a all out battle as thats coming in the latter of Oct. and 1st of nov. Tickling tines and soft buck grunts will get the curiosity of a buck nearby, and have actually brought in does looking to see whats going on. Curiosity being the key here. As far as estrous scents, I've read that once a buck looses his velvet and testostrone builds a buck is ready to breed at that time. The does are just not receptive at this time. I have never tryed to use any scents this early as I'm afraid of spooking a mature animal and just wait until I see the 1st scrape in the area. Thats my starting point as far as estrous scents. Bucks have been rubbing in my area the last couple weeks and I've been tickling the tines on each hunt. No success this year but I know it works because of previous years. I am by far no expert but that has been my expierience and will be glad to share it with anyone who is interested. I love to bow hunt and its been my thing for 22 years. Hope the info I share can help you out.

Too early almost every year for doe estrus, a little lite rattling and grunt is good this time of the year, also try some buck nip, it will grab their curriosty.
