RE: ???????
Nope, I have two buddies that use the 300 on everything including deer!!!
I would shoot the 180grn bullets to keep the recoil down a little but they still kick quite a bit!!!!!I myself have the 270WSM and love it it is super flat and super fast......

That's a personal opinion. I personally believe you don't need that heavy of a cal. to kill a deer. If I hunted other large game then maybe I would have one. I hunt deer and turkey. I don't need one to kill a deer. Is it too much? Well it will definately get the job done, but so will a .243 or .270. I really believe it is a little too much for just Whitetails. It's kind of like shooting turkeys with a 10 guage. You can kill them but you really don't need quite that much fire power. Just my opinion. If you use a .300 that's perfectly fine.

Just take some practice shots and decide for yourself. The .243 will kick the least and the .300 the most, but if you have the option of these three guns, then I would definitely take the .270. Whatever you decide, take some practice shots before taking it in the field.

Youngbuck, I'm not trying to talk you out of buying a .300, but if you strictly hunt whitetails you may want to try something else. If you weigh 180-190 lbs., you should be able to handle a .300. I shoot a .270 short mag and love it. The short mags do have a little more kick to them. Everyone has there favorite caliber. Don't worry about the kick. If it bothers you that bad you can always put a BOSS on your barrell to cut down on recoil. Personally I would go with a .270, .280, or .308. Again that is just my opinion. You get what you really want. Your the one who will be hunting with it for years so follow your heart.

Is a 4 door F350 4X4 lifted 8 inches, w/ 40-inch tires and a modified 700hp/1000 ft lb turbo diesel too much?
Maybe never taken into the mud, but even on paved roads. It will get ya where you're going right? Not very comfortable. Not very efficient. And hard on the body and wallet.
I can see no practical reason to use that on a "little" whitetail deer. Elk? OK - I can go for that. Moose? Yup. A big old grizzly? Sure.
There will be some meat damage with the 300. My absolute favorite cartridge for any kind of North American big game, hands down is the good old .30-06. It can do it all with the wonderful variety of ammo out there.
But then again, there are people who just have to have the latest "toys", whether there is an actual need for them or not.
