Really depends on the terrain/situation. I know a guy with a .444 Marlin and it works great in thick woods for close shots, but it would be horrible for open, long shots. I shoot 30-06 myself, but I don't see how one calibercan be"better" than another generally speaking.

CaliberI like the .284 and cartridge in the .284 caliber a 7mm rem mag (which is not on your list). Which brings me to the list itself,which arecartridges not calibers!Caliber refers to the diameter of the bullet used and cartridge is in reference to thecase (brass). Many rifles share calibers but they don't not share cases. For ie: 308win, 3030, 3006, 300 all are in fact .308 caliber.
