RE: do nylons work keeping you warm?
True polypropeylene long johns socks, and glove liners like fleece DO NOT ABSORB MOISTURE. Wipe it off with your hands and keep going. The principle of poly pro is to wick moisture away from your body and crearte and preserve a precious layer of air around the body. Alone though they will not provide warmth but assist in maintaining.
When I climbed Mt Baker in Washington State the first time, I wore my first set of poly pro. When I took my wool sweater off the moisture beaded up on my poly pro top. I wiped the moisture away and it presented no problem. Of course expedition grade will be much better in very cold weather.
I have not tried poly pro in below zero weather but I may get a chance on the opener of the Late Archery Elk Hunt November 20.

I don't think you want to be wearing those around my hunting buddies when the've been away from the wife for a week or two, it may be hazardous to ones health. I strongly suggest ordering some polar fleece out of Cabelas and save your manhood.<img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>

My father in law and his buds use to wear nylons, but that was before todays underwear. I think with the stuff we have now, I couldn't see nylons being any better, well except if you paint your toenails...hehe!

Well thanks guys for the feedback. must of been a HOT topic. I talked to the wife and had her read the feedback. she said go and spend the money on the poly stuff. Wearing nylons even for one season could spin tales that could last a lifetime. 25yrs from now I can picture the guys hanging around the lodge telling hunting stories. (Oh and remember the year you wore the pantyhose hahaha.) ya thanks for the imput. poly forever!!!!

Hey I like the feel of nylons against my skin...but only when she's in a warm, snuggling mood. Any other time I'll use poly under layers of other cotton and goretex.

In my military experience, the poly-pros, as we call them, are great. But for a lighter insulation, forget the nylons and get you some spandex. I am talking about the long trouser-like bottoms. Spandex is great for about 40 degrees and above. I have worn them several times this season. Try them, I think you'll agree. You can find them at most athletic sporting goods stores.
