Wildlife Research Scents
Ok a buddy of mine has some how come into some free Wildlife Research scents, i don't know how he does it. He always gets free stuff as trial or other...lucky I guess or just talks more than me.
Any ways to my question, I don't or I should say haven't found much luck or use with scents in the past. I have always tended to just hunt natural lines. We are heading to our annual deer camp and it would seem free means I should think about giving the old college try yet again.
The scents are Excite (doe in estrus) and Hot Musk (scrape or dominant buck scent...I think). Does anybody know if these scents work? I would assume they should be used like other scents, drags, set up in a pinwheel fashion on stand location with the estrus. the Musk I would assume use on mock scrapes or pinwheel fashion when rattling. Is this true? Any thoughts are very much needed.
Or should I say oh no thanks you hunt that way about a mile and I will go this way 2 miles!!!!
I am rather sceptical of scents, so I really need input. I am not a newbie to hunting and this is my trophy tag..so I really need some good info. The last thing I want is to run my shooter off with scent, you know what I mean. I do a lot of midday rattling would both or one of these scents help or hinder? Which one?
Thanks to all, I RRRREEEEEAAAALLLLY appreciate it!!

RE: Wildlife Research Scents
Skeeter,
I am werry on sent as well, and have lost good shots due to some of them. In my opinion some sents need to be used at certain times.
The doe estrus should be used during the rut period and the musk obviously with a scrap/rubbing area. Some of those musk sents will run off other bucks, but if you know of a certian deer with in the area he may come in to check it out.
I haven't personally used the musk sent but have use a doe in estrus sent. Matter of fact is was last season, I placed some in a Tinks sent bomb and took a good 6 pointer. The thing is I'm not really sure if the buck came into smell the stuff or not, as I was hunting a good trail?
Being this is a trophy hunt leave no doubt, if you know your area and know the deer are there it may be better to stick to the natural hunting and use the wind and location to your advantage.
When you said they were free samples are they pretty new items for this company that manufactures the sents, have they been tested before, do you know how old the sents are. Some question to ask your self.
If you do use them let us know what you think?
Good luck and safe hunting.

Do not use scents unless you are absolutely sure how and when to use them. Wildlife research products makes great stuff, and you can get a brochure from them that explains when and how to use scents.
Get the brochure, it's only 5 bucks<img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle> but it will get some big bucks as well.

What if the "Hokey Pokey" really is what it's all about?

I have been using wildlife research center scents for the past few years, and i think the stuff is great. I usually use the special golden estrus. This past weekend I went out 4 times and had 3 different bucks come nose down walking right in the trail that i walked in on (i use a drag while walking in) and go right to where i hung it in a tree. the stuff works - use it.

RE: Wildlife Research Scents
Guys i got lucky on some free stuff myself for once. Just got a sample bottle of James Valley " leathal weapon" Doe in estrus scent today in the mail. It smells pretty rank, yuky, I mean yummy?
Anyway, I talked with my pal the stuff says good until Jan. 2004 if unopened. It is sealed in the package and a full bottle of what I indicated. Has any one heard of these 2 scents or better yet used them? It seems everybody that has replied uses Gold Estrus or something. Not Excite, my bud said it is thick. The leathal weapon stuff I got today is almost a paste.
The thing I don't like is it tells you to pinwheel into the wind from your location. This goes against everything I do. I always hunt with the wind on my nose or cheek. It would seem the scents or companies say vice versa. I will be ground blind hunting, so I am really leary about using this stuff in my big mans domain...you know what I mean. The bugger sniffed me out last year and I never saw him again until after season. I know he responds to rattling as I hauled him in 3 times, first 2 were no shot windows, the final he come right in the thickest, nastiest stuff and bang was standing their going who and what are you...woof and bye bye.
So whats ye'all think? Should I or shouldn't I? I know I will use it, but if this is the only way to use with the wind blowing to my deer, then I may just try it other than my deers home. OOOOORRRRR does it really cover your scent or get them thinking love and not hunter with fake love?
Oh boy I am confused and very leary.....Please some one say something and help me out of my abiss!!!!!
<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>Thanks
