You knew it was a good deal.
After hearing about why this fellow had to sell his guns, his physical condition, I was rather disappointed to read you wouldn't give him the asking price.

I guess you dont understand, this guy has lots of money. And told me later that he would sell it to me for $400. He hardly ever uses his guns, and likes me enough to sell it to me for cheap because he knows it will go to good use.
