I didn't hear audio so I might be missing something. However, when you're disappointed to shoot a big buck, you're not a hunter. When you shoot "cull" bucks, you're not a hunter. I can't imagine shooting a buck "because I have to".

RE: 14,500$ "cull" buck
Squirrel,
This hunt apparently took place on an outfitters private land. In many cases trophy hunters hire a guide for a fixed cost then pay an additional fee based on how large the buck is that they shoot.(measured by boone and crocket points)
In this case the man who shot the buck appears to be a friend of the outfitter and had no intention of paying for a trophy buck. He was supposed to be helping his friend by shooting only "cull bucks". (A cull buck is a mature buck with a small or otherwise "inferior" rack. The intention is to remove those genes form the gene pool).
The shooter accidentally shot an honest trophy buck (180 B& C point). The cost for such a buck on this ranch would be 14,500$ based on the size of his rack.
Just imagine thinking you were simply shooting a decent buck, only to find out thatthe buckwas worth 14,500$ to your friends outfitting service[]
It is not clear how things were resolved in the end...
