Default emergency......for me anyway

TOnight is the 2nd night in a roll this buck has came out of the same woods at 6 pm and walked the same tree line. Unfortunatly too far for my bow. I got a real good look at him and this SOB is a monster. ONly a 6 point but he looks like a horse with big @$$ tree limbs sticking out for antlers. I tried grunting at him to bring him in closer and he didn't get too interested. SO I got out of my stand and got closer but he smelled me. Anyway I am going to hunt on the ground closer to the tree line b/c my stand is too noisey to move. Is this good or a bad idea. What is the best scent away, I may go buy some so he won't smell me.

Don't let that buck smell you! I would lube the suqeeks out of that stand and move it close to the tree line, well with in bow range.

Use the wind to your advantage, keep it in your face. Being on the ground will bring a greater risk of him sniffing you out, but if you do hunt from the ground, I would take every precaution to avaid being snifffed out. He can smell you before you ever see him.

As far as the best cover sent again, use the wind to your advantage.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

its too noisy to take down and move plus not to mention if I do it I will make 3 trips. Two ladder pieces, top, and seat. I really don't want to risk making noise and him think, &quot;well I ain't going over there anymore&quot; lol. This is why I wish I had a climbing stand. Like I said before I won't be hunting out of the same stand all year.

If that's the case I would suggest you get out there a least a day defore you hunt and sent up a natural blind. If you can pre determain which way the wind will be coming out of use this you your advantage.

Be sure to clear any limb, brush etc. out your shooting lane. I would set up some doe sent on the accual tree line trail that this buck is walking in the ally of your arrow path in a effort to have him stop to smell and also to poosibley entise him in.

Remember if you do hunt from a ground blind you will be right in his direct eye sight and he will be able to pick up any movement. So, build that blind with care, observe your direct hunting area and use your head.

Good luck.

So you think its ok to use doe piss right now in the season? I will try that but I am just afraid to use anything for fear of spooking the dear. I used deer cain and nothing happened they didn't even come around it. But that might be an OLD trail I was putting it off of. Do you think I should try some of that too? I put that apple flavored blocks out and the doe or the buck didn't even acknowledge it? I don't want to &^*&*^ this up b/c someone else's land is right next to mine, I do think they are not hunting it now but they will during gun season and I want this buck dead before then. YES I am selfish of this dear.....he's huge and I have hunted him for two years. So after all of this for someone else to kill him would not go over to well with me.......not at ALL!!!!!!

Use the wind first of all, get on the ground and make yourself a good blind to conceal movements. Make sure you can shoot without having to make big adjustments.(saying don't sit on the ground if you can't shoot from the ground, etc.) I think a cover scent would be your best bet and keep applying it while you hunt, like earth, carbon blast, etc. If you have already placed licks and cain with little success just hold off and see if they pattern to it...sometimes they will avoid the new at first and overdoing it can cause alarm. Doe pee probably won't make a hill of beans right now, he is more worried about food, rest and getting ready for what lies ahead. that being said it shouldn't hurt anything either, just don't put it on yourself!

Ceaser,

Some folks wont use doe sents until the rut begins for reasons of thier own, but buck will always niff doe urine. They want to know what going on and if you choose to use the doe sent, I't won't spook the deer.

I took a good deer last year October before the rut began, and my situation was alot like yours, I just couldn't get the freaking deer to present it self to my advantage.

So. I placed a TINKS sent bomb on a low branch with in my shooting lane. I could here the the deer moving in the woods, so I sent him a few short grunt, this seemed to have brought him in my general direction.

He then clearly caught the sent of the Tinks sent bomb and started heading towards it, curling his lip! The buck gave me a wonderful shot and fell 20yrds away.

I actually don't use doe scent anytime. First of all mature deer will often circle the wagons and come in downwind side of doe in heat, etc...then you be busted man. I did try some years ago and got busted 3 times, that was it...finito for moi! I assume they make and market regular doe pee, which would be a different story, but again ain't really up on any of the attractants.

make that ground blikd well!!don't leave any holes in the back ground,a good back block is always a good idea.pratice moving the bow around before the deer gets there,(watch the overhead)if you have never shot setting on a stool,or neeling,do it before the actial shot.

H.S.Sents scent-way spray in earth works great for me. I buy it by the Gal. be sure to wash all your hunting gear, cloths, cap, gloves, before you got to hunt.don't forget your diddy bag.wash your hair also. spray everything before entering the woods(EVERYTHING). good luck!!!!

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.
