best opening day ever
I went out in the morning and saw soem does. I came home and slept for a couple hours. I woke up and almost didnt go back out, but i figure being in college i only get home every so often, so i went out back. I walked out almost to the field and then cut into the woods and picked a tree to stand against. I stood there less than 5 minutes and this nice buck comes walking by. He was probably 30 yards away. I took one shot and he went down, kicked a little, got up and ran, so i fired again. I could tell his front legs were hurt bad, by the way he couldnt get up quick and the way he was running/hopping. It was raining and i didnt really have a blood trail to follow so i got my dad on the radio and had him come out to help. My dad coems walking up the trail i came in one, about 15 yards away and the buck is laying right in the path. Turned out i shot too far forward the first time and really messed up his left shoulder, and the second shot i believe broke his other leg.
he weighed about 130 or so. He is a 7pt, with a deformed brow tine on one side. This is the biggest deer i have shot and the rack is really good for the area. There are alot of hunters and not alot fo land and deer, so you rarely see anything bigger than a 4. The most my dad has shot around here is a 6, this being my third deer im pretty porud that i got him beat
(PS: this is my 1000th post, i officially have no life )
