Smoke um up...makes a good cover scent. Smoke spooking deer is an old wives tale, smoke is common occurrence in woods..especially where they have controlled burns every yr

RE: smoking in the tree stand?
My father-in-law made me realize that everything I thought should be in hunting was not. Let me explain; he smokes like a chimney, wears jeans, white tennis shoes, and a flannel shirt in his stand. This was my first hunting trip with him years ago. Of course I was in camo, cover scent and the works. Wouldn't you know it he killed more deer than anyone in camp. On the other side last year he told me while he was smoking a cigarette the wind changed and went right towards an 8 point that was walking to him, when the deer caught the wind he bolted. So I really do not know the true answer to this as well!!!

You know it may or may not. I hear the same thing with spit from chew. If it's part of your enjoyment of the outdoor expirience smoke, spit. play the banjo....you'll still get your chances..well maybe not playing the banjo

Nobody can tell me that a deer knows the difference between cigg. smoke and smoke from someonesnearby chimney.

What you are saying is that smoke is smoke and you cant tell the difference. Well I hate to tell you but that is BS when it comes to deer knowing the difference. A deers sense of smell is so much greater that ours I would bet he could tell the difference between anoaklog and a hickory log just by the smell of the smoke from it burning. Ever walk into a room and about gag after someone has been smoking a cigar? Ever go home after a night on the town and your wife notices a perfume smell that isn't her brand?
Bottom line is that deer can smell cigarette smoke and get alarmed if it is downwind from you. If you are asmoker and smoke on stand then stop living in a fairy tale world and believing that deer can smell every thing 1000 times better than man but somehow ignore your cigarette smoke.

That's interesting imfo capitalpyro but I believe it's a crock! I once was smoking and had a doe and a small spike walk right by my stand and I intentionally dropped mylit cigg. to see what they would do. The sniffed it and just kept browsing! Go figure.
