I hunt Ga. and will tell you that the deer hunting is great. I will say that you need to get a good climber this will help you set up on the best sice of the wind. Next public land is hard to hunt but not impossible. 95 percent of hunters will not go further than 1/4 mile off the road if you go 1/2 mile I almost gurentee you will be alone, plus the big deer seem to like hiding there, away from the hunting pressure. Next just have a good attitude, just go out to have fun, dont get upset if things dont work out for you. Hunting is one of the most fun things to do...aside from family time. Welcome to hunting and have fun.

Good Advice Army,
I do the same. I don't start scouting until 1/2 mile off the main drag.

Find where they bed and where they feed....Deer love acorns,
especially from white oaks setup in the nearest white oaks to
a cutover....they will come...
