Best factory 270 WSM cartridge for Whitetail?
IBought a White Gold Browning A-Bolt last year with a hex barrel and was wondering what some of ya'll thoughts were as to an optimum cartridge for Whitetail. I have had some problems zereoing in the scope with the winchester ballistic tips. I'm not the greatest shot; but the more I shot it seemed the worse it got.

Pretty much any ammo that you can get for the.270WSMis good deer ammo. The Balistic Tips are good. If they don't group well in your rifle, then Winchester also loads AccuBond, Fail Safe, and Power Points in the .270WSM. All of those are great bullets for deer.
Federal loads Nosler BT's, Partitions, AccuBondsanda couple other Nosler bullets. They also load a few others like Barnes X and so on. Check outtheir web site.
I am not sure what Remington makes, Neverreally been a big fan of Remington loads.
Hornady also makes great bullets. I am not sure if they load the SST's in the .270WSM ( i am sure they are b/c they load it in .270win.), but its a great bullet.
I've never heard anyone say that the Winchester BT's didn't group well in their rifle, but every rifle is different.
You said that it got worse as you shot? This may be caused by a lot of things. It could be caused by the barrel heating up. A loose screw on your mounts. A bad scope. If you are not confident with you setting the scope, take it to a friend or a local gunshop.
If you have alittle extra money, buy a lazer bore sighter, this could help you by putting you closer to the bore. With a lot of flat shooting calibers like the .270 and a capatible bullet, you only have to make minor adjustments (if any) after being bore sighted. Unless you are shooting 200-500yds.
Hope I helped.

Thanks Strutn. I could group two or three and then the winchester ballistic tips would stray. I'm not sure why but I have contacted a ballistic expert totry and help with that problem. I did shoot one deer with it last year and couldn't find it because evidently the bullet never exited the animal. The deer was found a month later by rabbit hunters. I guess I'll try a harder round. Perhaps the new Federal cartridge with the 130 grnosler partition. Just thought someone else might have had some similar situations to share.

How long did you wait b/t shots?
With most rifles that I seen, after about three back to back shots, they will start to stray and the barrel would be so hot that you couldn't hardly hold it. When I set my scope, I usually do it when I have a couple of hours to kill. I want every shot to be like the cold barrel shot that I will shoot at a deer. So I let my barrel cool down after each shot.
Some will argue with this, but it does make a difference in any rifle that I've seen.
One of my best friends has a COLT 7mm mag. After about five back to back shots you can literally spit on the barrel and watch it boil. To me this is just too much.
