bi-pod vs.shooting sticks
Thought I would pose this ? for the experts.I have a Harris bi-pod for my 30.06 ruger. On my upcoming western trip for mulies was wondering what most of you use as a rest.Do you prefer shooting sticks over a bi-pod?If so,Why?Also what brand do you think is best? Thanks

RE: bi-pod vs.shooting sticks
ill take my 3 dollar homeade shooting sticks any day.........only use them when shooting groundhogs(because of the distance and theres not much to rest on in a hay field) and shooting the flintlock.....i found if i shot the flinter off the sticks im much more accurate....rifle season im close range and can shot off my knees well enough to make the shots so i dont use them.....i kinda hate to carry the sticks around.......but a bipod adds wieght and bulk to your rifle......so both have downsides...and upsides........long range and open spaces you definently would be better off having something.......

RE: bi-pod vs.shooting sticks
Cronic, I have and use both. The deciding factor for me is weight. I bought the Harris for varmint hunting and it’s a quality product to steady the rifle for long distance shooting. So when I went on an antelope hunt of course I took the Harris. The additional weight is really noticeable when you walk for hours to stalk the game. Two years later, hunting for the same game, I bought the Stone Point shooting sticks. They weigh next to nothing and do a very good job supporting the rifle for long shots. My recommendation would be the Harris for varmint hunting and if you going to do a lot of walking or moving around I would go with the shooting sticks.
