When a deer comes along, shoot 'im
You should write for one of the hunting magazines. That's the best advice I've ever read.
What can I say?Knowledge comes with experience.

I will give you another welcome.

It is very sad that none of your coworkers have invited you. I invite people everyday. New hunters is the only way our way of life will continue. I also try to take a kid any time they want to go. So what if I miss a chance of taking a deer b/c of them asking 100000000000000000000000000 questions. At least they had fun and would want to do it again. And hopefully would be doing the same to another kid when they were my age.

I would also say take a hunters ed. class. Here in SC they are also required. I would also suggest that you make a gun/rifle choice before you start to actually hunt. Go the a local range and get VERY familure with it. I am sure that you have looked at the "guns" forum on here. Theres a lot on there about calibers for deer.

If you want to get into turkey hunting also, but only want to buy one gun then take a look at any 12ga. combo's that come with a regular barrel and a slug barrel. Or the T/C Encore. I will warn you that the recoil from most slug guns are a little much, but with you being a grown man, nothing you shouldn't be able to handle.

I think after the hunters ed. class and then getting familure with your gun/rifle. After you get this out of the way, I think you should already know enough to get out in the woods and hunt. Most of it is trial and error. If anyone ever tells you that they didn't learn from trial and error and knew everything they needed to know about hunting, the first day they stepped in the woods. They are not only lieing, they have a huge ego problem.

You seem to be a responsible guy by just the questions you were asking. So thats a good start. Just remember that their is no stupid question. Esp. when it comes to hunting.
