Wow, that is probably the best thing I have read so far in my research. Too bad you didn't group well enough to test the Winchester BST's. I wonder if you have tried these on ground hogs or other varmints.

Great write-up... that is the kind of information I was looking for!!! Where are you in NC? Do you have any lease opportunities on those Eastern NC family farms? I have just gotten back into hunting after being out of it for 35 years. I have had a hard time finding land to hunt... I do have a Central NC farm that I have permission to hunt, but would love to take advantage of the earlier eastern NC zone season.
Again... if there is any opportunity for a concientious, safe, 56 yr. old (I consider myself young, lol) person to hunt any of your properties, please let me know! I can be reached at [email protected].

Have you tried the 85gr BTHP's on ground hogs or other varmints? If so, how did they do?
Thanks
Thanks

If shots are expected past 200 yards....I would recommend the Federal 85gr...its travelling faster at 300 yards than most factory 100 grain loadings are at 200 yards...Good Luck....

I just got my 10 year old daughter a youth 243. Does the 85gr have less recoil ? I may let her practice with 55gr. Then move up to the 85gr for deer hunting.

All I can add is, when I had my 30-30, I tried some saboted .223 varmint ammo that was about 55gr. There was significantly less recoil even though the bullet was around 3000 fps out the muzzle.

I shot Winchester 243 psp in 80 grain. been using it for 25 years.no problem , only one deer that didn't go down. all the rest went down at the hit site or with in 25 to 30 yards.
my wife took one with a double lung that ran about 100 yards. can't explain that.looked at the lungs and both were a mess.

Like I mentioned above, I use Fed.100grNP. All my shots have been under
200yds.I also have heard from my friends that shoot 200 and over for me
to switch to 85gr, but my shots under 200 with 100NP drops them in thier
tracks. Thanks for your report NC.
