i got into hunting for the sole purpose of getting great meat. and i knew a little about before hand. i have to say i totally disagree with the original post.i have read and learned that no matter how hard hunting might be the real work begins with a downed deer

Unless you don't know what you are doing, then you might ruin or waste more meat than you get. In which case letting someone that knows what they are doing might be a better idea. It does cost a little bit though.
You could go either way on this one I guess.

Butchering an animal has to be about one of the simplest tasks I have ever learned.
I am for the most part completely self taught.
After eating venison I butcher myself I find it difficult to eat meat processed by a butcher. I find the only use for the butcher is to have them prepare ground meats or sausages.
I usually have very little meat left to grind as I usuallymakeall the scraps intojerky.

I go with the true hunters on this one the rack is your keepsake. There will come a time when you can no longer hunt. Rub those antlers and you can get some of your life back. Also selling antlers??THATS AMMOfor those who dont understand hunting.. You have to protect your hunting rights, follow a stricter code of hunting ethics for all our sakes. Donate the hide to the V.F.W.
