RE: shipping guns?
Halcon,
I don't know if things have changed in the last year or so, but I have mailed a shotgun in two seperate boxes without issue. I pulled a shotgun apart, boxed up the stock and action in one package, then the barrel and forearm in another. Without the barrel, it is inoperable as it is just parts. I don't know if I was suppose to do it that way, but the USPS didn't bat an eye.

Good idea on the taking the guns apart, however I believe the action to be the one part that would be in question, if you check you can't have one shipped from the factor without a FFL.

RE: shipping guns?
From a (past)FFL dealer, here is what I would do:
**Remove bolts ship seperate this only helps if the guns get stolen they are out a bolt and now ATF can put a notice to dealers alerting them to persons buying replacement bolt. Ship insured anyway
** Pay a FFL dealer at both ends..it will be next to nothing compared to value of weapons
Ship insured. A FFL dealer will ship to another FFL dealer close to you. You will have
2 responsible individuals "watching out for your interests"
