Mulchatna Caribou/Moose Drop Camp

Mulchatna Caribou/Moose Drop Camp
It's getting close to start making a final plan for Alaska this year. I have contacted many outfitters as well as consultants and would like to start narrowing down my options and have come here for my last input.
I am looking for a (Outfitted) Drop Camp for Caribou and possibly Moose.
I realize that this combo is tough because I am looking to hunt the Mulchatna herd for Caribou and am trying to find a camp that offers Moose hunting in the same area.
If anyone has done this hunt and has any input, please reply. A link would be great.

not to throw a wrench into your plans, but dont overlook the western arctic caribou herd. Its big enough that it would allow you to have a decent chance at a combo for moose bou on the same trip. I know of a few guys that have pulled it off.

Thanks for the info. I have considered all the area's in Alaska and am on a small budget. I will be flying out of Anchorage with a few others. The cost of the extra flight time as well as any game harvested will go over the budget.
I might just go for the Caribou and make some contacts for Moose while I am there for a future hunt.
Thanks Again

Bob,
Realize you can have just as good of a hunt up off the haul road or better depending on where that herd is at if you are starting from ANCH.
To hunt he mulchatna from late august on you are better off starting out of aniak or somewhere in that direction. That's the recommendation I've been giving by a few biologists and guys who have hunted both drops and floats in that area.
Realize though caribou are very nomadic and what they do from day to day, year to year is up in the wind, literally.
Guess what I am trying to say is you could end up spending quite a bit to find enough animals to hunt, thats IF they can get to them from Anchorage. Not trying to put a downer into your planing, just looking at things realistically.
I agree if you are on a tight budget, stay away from a moose hunt, considering you're planning on returning. I don't believe there is a such thing as hidden costs if you do your homework. WHen you do, you'll realize extra meat flights can tally up a relatively avg cost hunt to becoming quite an exspensive one.

Thanks for the advice. I do believe that I will make this just a Caribou trip. Visions of big game animals in alaska get the heart pumping and a guy wants to get em all so to speak.
The outfitters I have talked with say it is a do able deal for both Moose and Caribou but more than I would have in my budget.
I think what I am going to do is focus on a Trophy Caribou and put off Moose for another year or pray for that winning Lotto ticket
Thanks Again
