Default My wife turns into a Hunter

My wife has accompanied me while hunting for 30+ years, but has never hunter herself. She finally decided she wanted to be a hunter, so last Christmas, Santa brought her a Benelli SBE. In the past months, we had it cut down and fitted to her, gun safety, shooting etc etc. We went out for the opener of Grouse and Doves yesterday (SEP 1). Because this was her first time actually hunting, I acted mainly as guide, coach and dog handler. The take for the day was 2 Ruffs and 5 Doves. One Ruff was a simple marked retrieve for Casey boy, but the other involved following a scent trail through some amazingly thick vegetation in order to find the bird and make the retrieve. We were pass shooting doves as they came in for their evening drink, and as a result, they were all ' splash downs' in the pond. Because we were hiding in catails, all the doves turned into ' waterblinds' for the pooch.

Here' s a pic of Nami with the first bird of her life. She looks just a tad happy don' t ya think

Awesome Doc... I can' t get my wife to go with me let alone hunt... She did fire a .22 at our JAKES day this year - perhaps there is still hope.

Hey, it really is a lot of fun when the wife goes. I wasn' t quite sure about how my wife would react. As it turns out, she is quite the game spotter and cannot wait to get back into the woods this year for elk season. She shoots a .300 WM with a break into<1" groups from the bench and is pretty good from sitting and standing too. I was most surprised at how she handled the cold weather once we got back to Colorado.

She missed her only shots last year at a bull.....6X6 running full speed about 260 yards away.

It is a bit different than hunting with the fellas..........

Congrats to your wife for turning into a hunter, and congrats to you for helping her get there!
I' ve hunted for years, (26 years or so), but neither of my sisters has ever gotten interested in it although my Dad and brothers had always hunted. Of course, I always was the tomboy of the bunch.
My husband and I always hunt together. He never did hunt with the guys before we met, he was a pretty much a loner. We have a blast when we go hunting. Unfortunately, over the years our hunts have become shorter and fewer, as we matured, had kids to tote around, got responsible jobs, etc..... [:' (] Things are looking up , though!!!

Congrats to your wife. The only thing bad about having a spouse that hunts also is the cost. Two rifles, two shotguns, two hunting licenses, two tags, two pair wool pants. The list goes on.
The big plus to this is she will be more understanding when you want to buy something new for yourself.

Congrats!!
I try to get my significant other to hunt, but she is too timid. She flinches at the firing of a round. Although she loves to shoot my pistol (Well that' s a start) I figure I get her use to shooting a side arm, and hopefully one day she will pick up a rifle. My oldest daughter (7 yrs old) has already shown intrest in hunting, and she can' t wait until she can hunt.
