RE: Hot + Dry = (in reply to slee)

I hunt in the Taneum just east of Stampede Pass and Tacoma Pass. I hope me coming back next week from MS will make it start raining again

You' re not alone there! We' ve got our own fires, but things are awful up in south central BC. [:' (]20,000 people evacuated-hundreds of homes gone!
Im a Colokum Modern hunter myself, But one year a few back We hunted the Taneum area due to conflicts of work opportunities and such. It was nice to have the season start in early November instead of late October-Why they moved Yakima season up, instead of moving us back[X(]- They seem to always do things backwards

Have a great trip back, and BRING THE RAIN! daWg

[] It' s starting to happen, fellow Washington hunters. I was on the Colville National forest website last night, and there it was:

[] They are SERIOUSLY considering closing CNF to all public access due to fire danger[]- How long will it take before it happens in all the other USFS land in E. WA.? []
Hunting licenses and tags don' t do us any good if we can' t get in the woods DURING OUR SEASONS![X(][]

If you remember, the last time anything similar took place,it was Wa. state DNR closing thier land.USFS was still open- Can they be far behind?

As of today, the only restrictions on DNR land is NO CAMPFIRES, NO CHARCOAL FIRES, ONLY propane stoves are allowed (and they must be either IN a vehicle or up off the ground and placed on a non-combustable material). NO SMOKING except in a closed vehicle. Vehicles must be kept off of any vegitation which could be ignited by a hot exhaust.

But I' d betcha that if only ONE fire is started by hunters, the entire woods will be shut down. It' s tinderbox dry for sure.

The WDFW website says they have no plan to " curtail or modify" seasons, but as Doc stated they also don" t want vehicles anywhere near the 100' legal distance from the road-don' t want any catalytic converter fires.
It almost seems to me that they are taking the standard[&:] Washington Govt.[&:]-beaurocrat [&:][X(]approach.............Head stuck firmly up thier ass, hoping the problem will go away. I sent WDFW email to 3 different departments asking if they have any " contingency" plans just in case, so that some thought and common sense could go into any decisions, instead of the usual Wa. knee-Jerk reaction.I really doubt that.[X(][&:]
