CHARLIEO, DOC E GAVE YOU SOME REALLY GOOD INFO. MY GRAND PARENTS LIVE IN STEVENS COUNTY NEAR THE TOWN OF LAYTON AND WHEN I WAS BACK THERE LAST WEEK I COUNTED OVER A HUNDRED TURKEYS. AS FOR A CALL I USED A PRIMOS SLATE CALL, LAST YEAR WAS MY FIRST YEAR TURKEY HUNTING AND I FOUND THE GLASS CALL THE BEST TO USE AS A FIRST TIMER

YOUR 20 GAUGE SHOULD WORK FOR TURKEY HUNTING, I SEEN AND HEARD STORIES ABOUT GUYS AND GALS THAT HAVE SHOT THEIR TURKEY WITH A 20 GAUGE, BUT THE GUN OF CHOICE FOR MOST HUNTERS IS THE 12 GAUGE, MOSSBERGE IS A NICE GUN TO LOOK AT FAIRLY CHEAP, BUT GOOD FOR THE VALUE. GOOD LUCK,

12 GAUGE WITH 3 INCH SHELL I WOULD GO WITH THE SHORT BARREL. JUST BECAUSE EASIER TO SWING AROUND THAN A LONG BARREL.

...I totaly agree with Robb....even though I shoot a long barrel...wife shoot's the new Rem. 870 turkey gun short barrel. Never have taken a shot over 30 yd's....so the 3" shell's do the job

Slee sorry for the delayed answer back.
I went in the Spring of 99' to visit my uncle in Kettle. It was the first week in May (still snowing too!) drove over by myself & on the way up 25 I detoured to the hills just east of the resort in Hunters. I did find some good sign including droppings and a few breast feathers on a side road. I also went a little farther north and scouted some mixed select cut and turned out to be 20 acer private lots through out the whole area just north of Hunters. On the way out of this area, I came around the last bend in the road near the pavement and had a herd of 17 Bighorns blocking my way out! Three were trophy class rams and I have the pics to prove it. One had an ear tag on him and was probably a project for Bioligists. It was a cool site indeed...
I arrived at uncles house on a Friday and Saturday morning he took me out for a cruise along the nearby Kettle River valley areas. We drove and drove and drove til' he drove me crazy driving around and not finding anything to set up for the next morning. I left with a bad taste in my mouth and really wanted a more devoted person to really get out in the woods like a true dedicated hunter should.
Charlie, I would love to join you on your scout trip up in the areas you mentioned earlier and have two decoys just waiting to call in a tom over!
