Looking at a Mule Deer Hunt in Wyoming's Region R. This is the West side of the Big Horns or East of Lovell & 310.

Any insights on the area or hunting opportunities?

Thanks in advance!

Hunted the area your talking about back in 07. When you come out of Lovell keep following 14 E. When you get over the bridge that goes over Big Horn lake look on your left and there is a dirt road that splits. To the right takes you to a gulch (I forget the name) There is an area there for watering your horses, bathroom and a gravel parking lot. To the right takes you along the lake on the flat ground to a dead end turn around (guys usually camp there) We were into deer every day. We were like 2 eastern flat footers the first day riding into the Big Horns looking for deer LOL. Here is what we found out. No need to drive a wheeler into the Nat. forest just stalk around the clines\foot hills glassing at sun up and sun down. Watch the wind and pay close attention to the small gulch areas coming out of the foot hills. There are rocky paths that stretch for miles along the foothills so you will have plenty of ground to cover on foot, horse or ATV. You will see movement in the sage if you keep a sharp eye. If there is snow above the foot hills all the better as it drives the deer down into these areas even more. If you are not sure of the area just go mid-day and look for the area with the most tracks. The other way to hunt mid day (locals taught me this) is to glass high on the ridges and the deer will be in the sparsely vegetation areas of behind clumps of cover on real sunny or windy days. My only regret about the trip was driving out there from NJ because it only allowed my to hunt 3 days out of a 10 day hunt. I wanted to stay and keep at it but work obligations and not having enough vacation time made me come home. My buddy shot a nice 140's mulie and I missed a solid 170 class buck. Next time I am flying out and staying at the econo lodge in Lovell, no more camper roughing it for me.
