Good luck, be safeand let us know how it goes. I leave Oct 11 for the second season rifle opener on the 18th in area 083. Long 2300 mile trip but it will be great with 4 of us in one truck.

We usually go out and back on the more northern Rt 81. Pretty straight shot from the NY border and Colorado. It bypasses most of the larger cities like st louis and KC.

Good luck on your elk hunt spudrow. I'm from about 100 miles south of younear
Cape Girardeau, MO. I went on my first elk hunt last year in the San Juan forest of
SW CO. I had wanted to go for several years and finally made it happen. Can't go this
year cause daughter and new son-in-law are expecting my first grandbaby. Can't mis
that. Anyway would love to hear how it goes out there. It was kind of funny, I've lived
in MO all my life( 10 years in St. Louis) and never saw an elk. Last year after i got back
from my hunt, while driving down 270, I saw a truck pulling a long flatbed trailer covered
in dried mud with 2 huge bull elk and 2 nice mule deer strapped down on it. I had to chuckle.
Again good luck spudrow and you too champlain islander.
