High Elevation Archery Elk Hunting

RE: High Elevation Archery Elk Hunting
My experience at 6000-9000 ft wasn't bad at all. I came from about a 900'-1100' location. I was in pretty good shape heading into the trip, the first couple days were a little rough, but I got much stronger as the time went on.
I'm jogging several times a week, and taking long hikes on weekends, I have around 10# to drop yet. I'm 5-10 188, I'd like to get under 180, 175 would be better. Sept 19 can't get here soon enough.

Arrow flight will be the least of your concerns if your a descent shooter. Frozen weather and noise from frozen conditions will be hard to hunt in because just the slightest scrape or movement can be magnified.Your breath too will give you away. Just be in your best shape you can be in and hunting in 8-9,000ft, you will get short winded and fatiqued quikly. Good Luck.

RE: High Elevation Archery Elk Hunting
I live in Phoenix (less than 1500' elevation) and hunt in northern Arizona (around 7000-8000' elevation). There is a difference in point of impact in the change of elevation but it isn't more that a couple of inches depending on the speed of you bow. As far as the physical impact of the elevation, I think you will find you will be OK if you go take your time and go slow when going uphill. My experience is that I run out of air much faster if I am rushing or trying to run in the higher country. Good luck on your hunt. I have a bull elk tag here in Arizona next month and as far as I am concerned, we are both in for the time of our life.
