Think Deer will rut in WA sooner this fall?
It's been a really cold fall already and it's still September! Snow is already falling on the passes and freezing temps are just about everywhere.
You guys think the deer up north will start rutting any sooner this year? I usually hunt up by Tonasket/Republic for general rifle and there has been years we've shot bucks in the middle of October starting to rut.

that is a good question. i usually hunt outside of loomis in the sinlahekin valley.. but with the cold temperatures.. i am thinking about going down to hunt the grade creek area of lake chelan. not sure on what 2 do yet. dad went scouting last weekend in winthrop and saw some huge bucks.. but who knows what can happen between now and the opener

Well, the opener is less than 2 weeks away. Guess it won't matter much, we hunt the same area every year for the opener. Hopefully the weather will have the bucks moving around a bit more. I know the Elk have been moving a lot in the Colockum area, heard of lots of reports of many bulls rutting pretty hard this year.

I'm thinking they will too. Snow reported for tonight in the passes, seems winter is coming early this year so I think the colder temps will move the rut up a week or two, or at least change behaviors of the animals somewhat.
Good luck up there Clint and be safe. I'm sure we'll both post here if we are lucky this fall. Don't forget to check out my hunting homepage too, you'll see a few of the nice bucks we've harvested up by the Bonaparte area.
