Why spend alot of $ on a V-Camera?
I love to video hunts and I’m trying to talk our hunt club into investing in a good camera. Nobody but me thinks we need to spend $2,000 on one camera. They think our old handycams work fine and would rather spend the $ on trail cams or food plots.
I’ve never filmed with a high quality camera and I guess I’m not even sure why we need an expensive one. I want to make DVDs of all our hunts but just for personal use.
What are the benefits in investing in a good camera?

Exactly... But if you want to video just for personal use, maybe you don't need professional equipment.

Truth is, for what you are doing you don't need pro equipment. You could make the argument though that getting good equipment will certainly make your DVD's look better. Keep in mind though that once you buy a $2,000 camera you also have other equipment to buy.
Just the minimum:
Good Camera Arm - $200
Zoom/LANC remote - $180
Shotgun mic - $200+
Wireless Mics $200-$700+

reelcrazyfish makes a good point, although if the videos are for personal use you could probably get away with no wireless mics, and many cameras come with an adequate shotgun mic standard. Also, if you will have a cameraman the LANC remote isn't necessary either, but would be for videoing yourself.
The advantage of a prosumer camera is the manual functions. I mentioned in another thread that auto functions are not woods friendly. They pick up on the wrong things and can absolutely ruin your footage. If you want to do it and do it right, spend the money and get something you will be happy with. Once your buddies see the footage, they'll be happy too.
