Question about 12 gauge loads

Default Question about 12 gauge loads

I bought some shells yesterday....#6 1 1/8 oz, should this be enough for most upland game...using a mod choke

That sounds like an appropriate load for most early season upland quarry. You might bump up to 4 or 5 later in the season (when things start flushing wild and not cooperating with the dogs.).

If that is a 12-bore loading, it will be nice for early-season pheasants. A bit much, perhaps, for grouse or quail but it will certainly take those birds. I would go with a #7 1/2 if they are your quarry.

And as backliner says, late-season pheasants may indeed require #5s.

Some other questions: Are you hunting with dogs? If so, what kind? What type of game are you going to be after?

yea that will defiantly be good for around the first half of the season, but about half way through i would switch to 6 or 5 maybe even 4 because they will be a little harder to get.
