In New England a Partridge is the slang for Ruffed Grouse???

Any points for no dogs?
I do not hunt with dogs and the 3 times I have (in 25 years) have hit nearly everything flushed in front of me.
Dogs = Easier kills (no offense, I just never have owned one).
* Also field hunting for Pheasant or quail etc tends to easier from my experience, than straddling a log & getting poked in the eye by a branch when a grouse or woodcock takes off. Just a few thoughts, I'm done...

Howdy Ed, Out west we have Hungarian or Grey Partridge. It was a little confusing for me when I first moved out here. They are kinda like a Dusky/Blue Grouse in appearance.
