If you have wild sunflowers growing is it best to mow them or leave them standing? If you should mow when is the best time?

Federal game wardens I have spoken with say that standing grain crops can't be hunted for migratory birds for 2 weeks after the cut date. I kind of like sunflowers in strips and along fence rows...

Most of the doves I shoot here in KS are full of either marijauna or wheat. Don't know exactly what yo have down there, but I know that you have wheat!!!
