I dont have any children yet. I can tell you from personal experience that I started going hunting with my dad and grandpop when I was 5. It was probably the onlytime I would be quiet. We used to sit in t he hardwoods and wait for squirrels and pheasants coming into roost. Here we are 25 years later and I treasure those memories. Oncemy wifeandI have children.. you better believe that if the kids want to go.. they will go..
My buddy just had a son back in February.. we cant wait until he is older so he cancome withus!

I volanteer every year for youth hunts on all kinds of game we have a good time we even see game some times when i was married her kids wanted to learn to hunt so we started with safety mostly because we had guns and they needed to know there not toys they were 9-10 girl and a boy i showed them how to make shure the gun was cleared and how to clean it then they learned how to load and shoot as long as every one is always using safety there all right even the youth hunts i do every child has to review the safety rules before we go out we take them 1 at a time and let them hunt over the dogs

One ofthe nice things about upland bird and water fowl, is it is a great format to get kids started in.When the correct precausionsare taken, this will bring the kids intoboth the shooting and hunting sports at a good age. This is basically when they can walk and navigatethe tourain without getting hurt or needing your assistance. 3 is a little young, but my older boys was hunting upland whenhe could walk and my second was a little later - 5 or so -# 3 and 4 have been with me since about 3-4 years. We also fished the area in the summer season so they new the area and had some outdoors exposure.
Safety is the biggest thing - how busy is the site; did they have safety glasses;they need to stay behindDad and pay attention to what is going on. The last and most important is to have them handle the birds andhelp indressing them!
For me the bottom line isthe adult and howacute they are to handling this type of training - many are not good field trainers and it takes a special attention to teachkids so young.
