Default Facemasks / Headnets

Hey guys need some input on whether or not to stick with a traditional facemask or to get a bug suit. I live in CNY, but when turkey season comes around the skeeters around here are terrible, and thats one thing i cant stand, the constant buzzing of a skeeter all around. I was lookin at cabelas when i found this...

Bug Out Skeeter Beeter

Or Even something like this:

Bug-Proof Headnet

Any my question is, will it be good for turkey hunting? I mean, will it be difficult to see out of it, and will the turkeys see my face...also, anyone have one of these or something similiar?
Pro's? Con's?

Turkey Vests!

I cannot sit still long before my butt falls asleep. Anyone reccomend a good turkey vest with a good thick (2"+) seat with padded rest?

Thanks.

I have a simalir suit and have found it "shines" when the sun hits it .Till I washed it a bunch of times .
It works great for the sketers and ticks ,even better now that I spray it with REPEL ( a clothing insect repellant). But you sweat like crazy in it .
IMO the suit makes you look like a dark bloob ,it dosn't seem to break up my form like good camo .
Also you still need to wear a face mask and camo clothing because the neting is so light you can see a face right thru it.

IMO you would be better off with regular camo and a Thermo Cell .

As for a vest ,I have a year or two's version of this Cabela's vest.
I like it and it works good .
BUT , I have found that if I do not fold the seat up and secure it before I move , the seat smacks me in the back of the legs and makes noise as I try to move QUITELY to a different spot.
Thats the only problem I have had.

A few suggestions:

1) Stick with a traditional facemask, just because if you're anything like me you probably "misplace" a facemask or two (along with pairs of gloves) each season.

2) For the skeeters and blackflies, get a thermocell. Can't be beat.

3) If you're really falling asleep, consider getting a packable seat. HS strut seat sells for ~$15 now, and should give you years of use.

well I just checked out the thermocell (I thought they were really expensive), but I was wondering how cost effective they really are? how long do the three mats last per butane cartridge? as in, will i go through a cartridge per 3 mats or what? thanks.

Personally I have never used the thermocell, but I have had hunters in camp that swear by them. To me, it is well worth the money spent to keep the skeeters off. I have had other hunters who used an open face mask that came back with bites around the open area...LOL Also the thermocell is odorless. So get yourself a thermocell and extra pads and cartriges, just to be sure your covered. Use your standard camo headnet.
BTW- I will have one just as soon as the BassPro opens down the road from me in Columbia, Mo. Just so I have one when I do get the chance to go hunting. Most of my time seems to be spent guiding others, but this year (I hope) will be differant___LOL

deerdust......check out www.cheaperthandirt.com for the Thermocell and replacement cartridges. I got the Thermocell for $20 and $5 for the refills.

I can comment on the vest. I just bought a Redhead Deluxe Turkey lounger from Basspro shops. I think it's the cat's meow. Custom pockets for all types of calls. pockets use snaps and zippers which is better than hearing the loud rip of velcro in the quiet morning. It has a padded back as well as a pretty good padded seat. The padded seat flipped down onto my HS Strut seat will give me all the comfort I need. It is compatible with thier water baldder system as well.

The beauty of it as well was the price. $49.95 CDN. (that probably about $35 USD). There was the exact same vest in the leafy version for almost double the price! Reatree Hardoowds HD Green was just fine for me. I compared this one with the Mossy Oak 3-D Elite Turkey vest which I thought I might want. It was double the price and not near as good for organizing or comfort in my humble opinion.

Last year I was eaten alive by the bugs. I hunt near a swamp when I am in VT so they are pretty bad. This season I will be wearing traditional camo, but I have unscented bug repellant specific for hunting.
