Starting to doubt myself....
Well today was starts the second week of spring gobbler here in PA ...
I am starting to doub tthat my season will be a successful one , there are 3 or 4 good longbeards aroud the farm im hunting , but that jsut isnt producing any activity, the gobblers dont all gobbler , only one or two , with the exception of an occasional jake.... I have seen birds everyday ive been out , but they jsut wont come closer then 70 yards....
Today i setup where i know they roost , and as i knew they were there , they flew down and landed 50 or so yards to my right over a noll, i called some , and had no results , what am i doing wrong , the turkey will gobble in the early morning to my calls off the roost , but thats it , after fly down , they shutup and do there own thing .... sorry for a long post , but im jsut getting so sick to my stomach of not being able to put the tag on a big toms leg , it may be impatience , but i have sat for atleast an hour and a half after watching turkey disappear without results , and they do something different everyday , one day they fly up hill , one they fly down , one they fly east , and one west , im jsut getting nervous is all ,
Any advice would be appreciated greatly

Sometimes the best call to a gobbler is none at all!You have a roostsite already located so do your best to get in tight and determine a fly-down point.Sometimes after being called too on the roost pressure will send them in a non-pattern direction, especially if you keep setting up from the same general set-up point.Gobblers can pattern hunters as we can pattern them. You keep referring to your birds in plural fashion as if they possibly may have hens roosted with your gobblers.Sounds like your hunting private ground,so you have time to possibly establish a travel route by determining which direction there leaving and set-up an ambush point. One other thing that has worked in the past for me,is wait in the evening till you know the bird has flown up in the roost and than let him know your there by calling to him from the point you anticipate to set-up the next morning!A few soft tree yelps and a few clucks may even produce a gobble. If he answers ya "great"if not dont lose hope cause if your set-up right he heard ya!Let it get dark and quietly get out of there and return under the cover of darkness in the morning.Often times letting him sleep on that hen he heard as he went to roost can drive him wild the next morn!!

yes BOB .. i am hunting private land with many other birds roosting along with the gobbler ... i will try the ambush point thing , cuz i think i found a good place to try next time im out ,it is in hardwoods that are moderatley open except for one thick spot , in the middle of the thicket there is more open woods , and they usually fly to taht spot in the middle of the thicket , im thinking they do taht , scratch around a bit , then from the comfort of the thicket , can move outward once they have made the decision that the coast is clear.... I did see a gobbler alone today strutting , bt was unable to setup on him ... Ill keep pluggin away and hopefully fill my tag with some tasty turkey

Bobgobble is right. I learned that the hard way. I tired giving a few soft calls and a fly up cackle one night in the woodlot behind the house, to see if I'd get a response but I didn't. So with a chance of rain the next morning and no response from the night before, I elected to sleep in. When I got up for work I listened out back only to hear a gobbler going completely nuts back there working his way up the hollow looking for the hen.

HELLO DOUBLELUNG55, WELL I NEVER CALL TO A BIRD ON THE ROOST. I SEEN TO MANY TOMS TURN AND FLY DOWN AWAY FROM THE CALL. I WAIT UNTIL I HEAR HIM FLY DOWN THEN START CALLING. THATS JUST MY OPINION. GOOD LUCK
