Default Too tight of a pattern?

Just wondering if it is possible to get to tight tight of a pattern.Right now I get a great pattern at 40yds.,I was thinking of trying the hevi-shot but maybe it will be too tight at 20yds. What do you all think?

Maybe not at 20 but at 10yds or so.some guns shoot a pattern so tight that it's like shootin a single bullet. This is just my belief but i'll bet as many birds have been missed at 10 yds and under as at any other distance.

Jalvja, I agree. That's why scoping your turkey gun makes more sense these days. With the much more precise aiming point with the crosshairs, this makes for a much more accurate gun at those close distances. Those new turkey loads and tight chokes, make it manditory to aim your gun just like a rifle!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I was watching a turkey video today from Wild Venture called the &quot;Dance&quot; and this guy missed one at about 10 yards. He let the bird get in to close. I like iron sights

Ill have to agree with Jalvja.Several years ago I called up and missed a Super nice Tom,at a distance of 11 yards.I had a new scope on the gun,One that was not parralax free(wanted to save some money),and missed him clean, because my eye wasn't centered in the scope. Now I dont like them any closer than 20 yards.

Yes Wacker we definately can have a pattern that at 10 yards isn't even close to being forgiving as say out at 35.I killed a gobbler at 8 steps about 10 years ago that I came within an eyelash from completely decapitating.&quot; Not to be ugly&quot;,but Paul my question is do you think thats the right way to go as far as our guns being more like rifles?Obviously clean harvests is what we are all looking for but with the advanced technology we have seen over the years with chokes, load specs, scopes, etc our marketing freinds are advacating taking longer shots.I wonder sometimes if our scatter guns in the near future are gonna be any different than a rifle?I believe callin in em close is the thrill but if we keep headen in the direction we're goin much of that will be lost. There aint nothin like havin a big ole gobbler gobble in your face! What do ya think??

I don't think new chokes, shells, and scopes advocate longer range shots, not to smart, ethical hunters anyway. They do however, make shotguns more lethal and accurate. Both qualities I believe any hunter would graciously accept. I use a low power scope on my Remington 870, and it gives me more confidence when using the tight choke. Incidently, the super-tight Truglo choke shoots a more uniform pattern than any factory choke. Theres no holes in the pattern, with the scope, a bird in range is history. Just my opinion.

I have a tru-glo choke on my 870, but don't have a scope, rather a gobbledot tru-glo sight, the realy bright red and green ones. At 10 yards, would this sight be accurate enough to pop that gobbler or would it send the small pattern to either side of its head??? In other words, are the Tru-glo sights good enough at short range to be right on or do I need a scope? I haven't shot my gun with this choke/sights on it yet, but can't wait to do so when the snow is gone. Thanks.
