RE: Pre-Season Baiting Turkeys
This is very intresting to me. I am also from Alabama were baiting is illegal during the season. GobblingBuck, first off you can tell your members to quit feeding the corn to the deer. Corn is merely an attractant. It provides little of what the deer need during the time you are feeding them. We have 3500 acres and we have been feeding the deer Soybeans. That was until they went sky high on the market. We do not feed corn at all as it is of no use to help with the deer herd in antler size and weight. The deer are just like us, when we eat corn our enzymes arent strong enough to break the corn down and when we use the bathroom it comes out in our stool. Deer are the same way, they cant break it down enough for it to do anything. Tell your guys to go buy Sweet Feed. Sweet Feed is a horse feed with crack corn and soybeans and molasses mixed up. For drawing your turkeys into your place, I highly reccomned Milo, its cheap and turkeys will absolutely devour it. We have a few Chufa feilds, but Chufa cost a pretty good bit of money to plant. If you have any questions just gimme a holla.

Oh yeah we had also burned over 400acres of pine plantations and the turkeys are loving it up. They are black when they come outta there. You guys should think about that if you have any places that could be burned. All game benefits from it.

Corn can be tainted with AFLATOXIN. It is a fungus that can occur naturaly
or can spread in stored corn (unless its frozen) . even low levels can be very bad for birds, and can have effects on deer ond other wildlife. Just do a search on 'aflatoxin wild turkeys', theres plenty of stuff about it on the net
