CHECK OUT THE MOSS. BANTAM 20 GAUGE YOUTH MODEL, COMES WITH 2 BARRELS AND A CERT. FOR 50% OFF FOR A FULL SIZE BUTT AND FOREARM SO HE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO OUT GROW THE GUN. HAVE FUN AND SAFE HUNTING.

My son had no problem handleing the Moss 500 12 ga. At 12 yrs.old.It came with two ported barrels If your worried about recoil one of those limb savers recoil pads could be a great investment. I thought about the 20 ga. but when he shot my 12's it didn't seem to bother him. So we went with the 12 ga.

A lot depends on what fits him. If he is small framed and light I's opt for one of the 20 guage youth guns. Ny one daughter fits that description and she used her 870 youth 20 gauge for turkeys, pheasants and waterfowl successfully. Her setup will thump a turkey dead out to 35+ yards.
Otherwise get him a 12 gauge. It's just a bit more versitile and easier to find ammo choices.

My son is 12 years old and has shot a 410, 20 guage and a 12 guage. He seems most comfortable with the 20 guage and shoots it very well. It shoots 3" shells and that doesn't seem to bother him at all. It's a Remington 870 express and fits him perfectly. He is not intimidated by the gun and has hit several doves with it.
