WHITE GOBBLER
I WAS SEEKING OUT A NEW HUNTING GROUND ONE DAY, WALKING DOWN A OLD LOG ROAD THAT HAD NOT BEEN USED SINCE ABOUT 1960,DEEP IN THE HILL' S OF GOOD OLD KENTUCKY,WHEN I WALKED UP ON A PURE WHITE TURKEY. I WAS AS SUPRISED AS HE WAS. I DONT THINK HE HAD EVER SEEN A HUMAN BEFORE.CAUSE HE JUST FLEW UP IN A TREE ABOUT 50 YARDS AWAY. AND JUST SIT THERE. I GOT BEHIND A TREE AND WATCHED HIM. SEASON OPENED THE NEXT DAY, SO I WAITED FOR IT TO GET DARK BEFORE I MOVED. I LIKE TO HAVE NEVER FOUND MY OLD HONDA. MAN IT WAS DARK.
THE NEXT MORNING I HEADED OUT. IT HAD RAINED AND IT WAS FOGGY. I DROVE ABOUT 4 MILES DEEP IN TO THE HILLS. I CAME UP ON THE LOG ROAD AND WALKED UP TO ABOUT 100 YARDS FROM WHERE THE BIRD FLEW UP AT. I WAITED UNTILL IT GOT ALMOST DAY LIGHT BEFORE I MADE ANY CALLS. I CLUCKED 3 TIMES AND KEE-KEE AND MADE 4 YELPS. MAN HE CAME ALIVE. HE WAS TRIPLE GOBBLEING ABOUT EVERY 15 SEC. WHEN I TOOK MY HAND AND SMACKED THE BACK OF MY LEG TO SOUND LIKE A HEN FLYING DOWN, HE FLEW OUT AND LANDED ABOUT 35 YARDS AWAY. HE LOCKED UP IN FULL STRUT. I SET THERE AND LOOKED AT HIM. I GAVE HIM A CLUCK TO MAKE HIM STICK HIS HEAD UP.ALL HE DID WAS GOBBLE. SO I TOOK AIM WITH MY OLD 10 GAUGE. WHEN HE GOBBLED THAT NEXT TIME I TOOK HIS HEAD OFF.
I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO THE CHECK IN STATION. HE WAS 24LBS HAD A 12IN BEARD AND HAD 1AND3/4IN SPURS. I DIDNT KNOW HE WAS THAT BIG. LATER THAT DAY I STOPED IN THE STATION AND THERE HAD BEEN 14 BIRDS CHECKED IN 3 OF THEM WERE WHITE.....
NOW MY QUESTION IS WERE THEY TAME OR ALBINO???? I HAVE SEEN A LOT MORE SINCE THEN. SOME ARE HALF AND HALF.
