Remington 870 super mag
I was wondering what the best choke/shell combo is for the 870 super mag. i currently have a tight wad choke with remington nitros 3 1/2" in 4 shot and are only getting a few pellets in a turkeys head target at 40 yards

I shoot an 870 SPS-T. Basically a super mag just for turkeys. I use a Jellyhead choke and Remington Wingmaster HD in 3 1/2" 6 shot. It is devastating. This combo will reach out and get them if need be. I shot two last year at 51 and 55 yards. I never thought I would find a round that would replace the old Rem. Hevi shot mags, but the HD's did. I tested several top shells ( Hevi 13, Hevi shot blend, Win. Extended, Federal Flight control ), and the HD's outperformed them all. Of course each setup is different. The heavier than lead loads are worth the extra dollars.

Remington has since stopped manufacturing the 3.5" #6's...only make them in 3" now. Hard to find. I have a couple boxes of 10 left if you're interested...let me know.

I just bought two boxes of 3 1/2" 6 shot a couple of weeks ago. Bass Pro has plenty of them. They are hard to find at other places though. Bass Pro is the only place I can find HD's in 3 or 3 1/2. Found then here in Louisiana and Texas.

I have both the 1187 supermag and the 870 supermag. In the 1187, a mad max choke. I use to shoot win ext range 5's in 3". Went to magnum blend 5,6,7's to try somethin else. Pretty impressed. The 870 has a jellyhead in it. I shot magnum blends out of that. Not as impressed. But stillI dead turkey. Shot ext range 5's, 3". Not bad at all. Dead birds both guns to 50 yds either way. But definitely different animals. But im also a 40 and under type of dude. If ya wanna go cheaper I have shot basic 3" 5's winchester. They shot pretty decent to 40 yds. Goodluck to ya. Just mess around with different combos.
