Jmedenf said let the maggots clean the tail. I would not recommend that. I would also not recommend using salt. Borax works much better. I'm telling you, as long as you remove all the meat and bone, or as much as possible, the tail will dry in no time. There won't be any smell. I've done enough of these to know. If you let maggots take over, you are looking at a smelly mess. I would also not recommend letting them dry outdoors. There is no need placing the tail between two pieces of cardboard. That will take some of the shape out of the fan and make it too flat. When I start on my other fans, I will post pics of the steps.

Salt will dry out the skin and tissue. It will absorb and trap water when the humidity gets high. Use borax, and it will last a lot longer.

It just slides right in. The mount will come with more than likely a piece of styrofoam to place between the base of the fan and the plaque. It's really very easy. I like the Lohman mounting kit. Not real fancy, but they are nice and very easy. They will also hold 5 beards. Those are the ones in my posted pics. I found a website where I can get then for $14.99, compared to most places where they cost anywhere from $19.99 to $24.99. You can get fancier, but the fancier you get, the more you are going to pay.
