This ia where patterning really comes into effect. Hitting the food sorce is about the best place for a turkey hunter to target. Calling is not as aggressive as it would be in the morning so limit it and only call enough to allow area birds to know that a bird maybe feeding in the area that they all know. Afternoon hunts are more of a sitting and waiting hunt. Birds become more silent as well in the afternoon...

Use a hen call and use jake and hen decoy. I am talking what works for me. I call often when hunting mid afternoon till dark. i have killed many birds from noon to late afternoon. My thought on this is those toms are out wandering around and hens are on the nest and for me it has been a good time for me to score. Like I said this is just me and it works for me.

It can be more of a waiting game, call sparringly and see what happens be ready afternoon birds can come in quietly. Good luck

Have taken or called 3 bids in at 3 to 4 in the late afternoon. I agree call sparingly, and make like a content Hen eating with some light purring. Find a shade tree with a breeze and good line of sight if possibe because as has been said they come in silently at times, and try not to drift off for a nap.LOL!

I have killed most of my birds between 3 and 6:30 in the roost area, I don't call until I hear a gobble then it's on. Strut zones close to roost are good to.

As fare as decoys go I usually don't use them but when I do I use a jake and a hen they go right to the jake if I let em make it that close.
