Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Question Tornadoes & Turkeys

Has anyone ever had a bunch of Tornadoes in your area just before Turkey season and notice that the birds are not where they once were? We got hammered here near my hunting area in Memphis IN. and I'm concerned because I'm not seeing them in the places I normally do.

If it's anything like the tornados that went through our area, there are trees down and the woods is a tangled mess. My bet would be that the birds would move out of an area like that.

We had some bad storms at the end is season last year. Couldn't deer hunt some places because of all the downed trees. Im not even attempting to go near them for turkeys. I would think their in the closest possible open woods or farmland, not going to be able to go about their business in real thick woods. My only other guess would be many this warmer weathers got them out of their winter flocks and spread out a little early, that's happened here. Our woods are already green and dogwoods blamed before season came in! Hope your able to find them and have a good season!

Maybe the tornadoes carried them away. We had falling debris here in Ohio from your tornadoes in Indiana, so maybe I'm seeing Indiana birds here in Ohio. That could explain why I am seeing turkeys here in areas I normally don't see them.

All the trees that bloom in April and May are full blown here in Southern Indiana, even some red buds are visible. Ticks are out in force, flys, wasp and blood sucking skeeters as well and it's only late March. Someone told me the weather is not what triggers the strutting but the length of the day. All I know is like I said I normally see birds every year in the same fields by the dozens but so far they are no shows up till now. We found some dead Deer in the Henryville area last week the first big game killed by the storms. I'm sure they are still there I'm just going to scout in some less damaged areas.
