Mossburg 500 Shot

Mossburg 500 Shot
I will be using a Mossburg 500 with a xx Mossburg full choke. I shot it for the first time last night at 20,30,40 yards and all the test shots would have killed a Tom with no problem. The shot is Winchester Supreme number 5 and it is a 3" shell which is the biggest it is able to fire. For 10.00 bucks at Walmart it does an OK job but I would like a little better performance and a few more bb's on the target out at 40 yards. Any suggestions from you who have a Mossburg 500 who have found a good load for this gun and type of choke would be appriciated.

[QUOTE=Mr. Longbeard;3793713]Were you shooting your gun at a turkey target or were you all cought up in the "10in circle hype"???[
I use the HS Turkey targets, I was getting about 12 to 20 bb's in the neck/head area at 30 and 40 yards anda few below that.

I shoot a 500, and I've killed them just fine out to 35 yds with Win 3" #5 and a standard full choke.
I bought #6 loads this year. The pellets are only 0.01" smaller in diameter, but you get 54 more pellets to the ounce of shot, so over 90 more pellets per shell in comparison to #5.

I believe that is a lead only choke? I would not shoot hevi shot with it.I shoot Hevi Shot mag blend with my 535 with great results. I have the TruGlo SSX choke and the Mag blend is # 5, 6, 7 shot.
Like others said switch to #6s and you will pick up some more pellets in your pattern.

I have the exact set up as you do. I use Federals 3in 2oz 5 and 6 shot. I prefer the 5 shot but the 6 shot is just as good. Just my opinion here Winchesters shells are junk. They spray all over the place. Im not afraid to shoot 50 yards using Federals. Try Federals and see the difference.

Thanks for the input everyone,I think I'll give the Federal shells a test with the 5 and 6 mix. I think your right about the Winchester 3, 5 spraying all over the place. I would prefer being able to shoot out to 50 yards if I needed to,the Winchester shells don't work well in my gun choke set up very well past 30 or 40 max.
